Paris Fashion Week: Balmain

After a few troublesome years Balmain are setting their hopes on Christophe Decarnin who has been at the helm for the last two seasons. Decarnin’s latest show was a floaty boho affair with feathers, fringing and soft fabrics giving a Native American-influenced feel. Romantic maxi-dresses jarred with some of the more blingy outfits in the collection giving the impression that Decarnin wasn’t exactly sure which direction to take. A tough but incongruous minidress appeared alongside more obviously Native American pieces. These were done without a trace of irony juxtaposing fringing with animal totems and beading; it’s a shame that with this mixed bag of influences Decarnin couldn’t come up with something more streamlined and innovative. Decarnin needs to find his voice and place within Balmain to give his future collections more personality. For more pictures see after the jump.
